Beruwala

Beruwala is a small resort town in the south western Coast of Sri Lanka. The name Beruwala is derived from the Sinhalese word for the where the sail is lowered. It marks the spot for the first Muslim settlement on the island was established by Arab traders around the 8th century AD. Kechimalai Mosque is one of the oldest Mosques in Sri Lanka. It is believed to be the site where the First Arab Muslim landed in Sri Lanka.

If Sri Lanka has one all-out Beach Resort, Beruwala is it. Just north of Bentota, It’s a plum spot for serious beach lovers thanks to its dazzling combination of Sun, Sea and Sand. The beaches are really something else. Soft golden sand that feels like warm talcum powder underfoot. Glant palm fronds rustling lightly in the tropical breeze.

Beruwala is the starting point of the 130km long stretch of beach. In the past few years great strides have been made in the field of resort development and thus the beach is ideal for bathing almost for the whole year.
