As the 8th highest mountain in Sri Lanka, Hakgala consists of high variety and high forest area. It’s peak is 2170m above the Sea level. Most parts of the mountain is covered with forest which belongs to Hakgala Nature Reserve. Hakgala Botanical Garden is also situated on the North-Eastern slope of the Hakgala Mountain. Legend says that Hakgala Mountain was formed by the chunk of rock brought from Himalayas by Hanuman.
