This fascinating tour explores the highlights of the north, an area quite unlike the test of the country. Out of bounds to foreign tourists until 2010 this region is once again welcoming visitors and those with an adventurous spirit will appreciate its colorful temple, colonial charm, national park and beautiful beaches.
COLOMBO TO KALPITIYA: You will be met on arrival for the drive north to your rustic beach hotel in kalpitiya

Today is at leisure to relax on the beach or perhaps take part in one of the activities on offer in this area.

Drive to your hotel near Anuradhapura in the Cultural Triangle region. Later head to Wilpattu National Park for a game drive.

Start the day at Sigiriya or ‘Lion Rock’ also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hike to the top is fairly strenuous but worthwhile to see the rock frescoes, the ruins of the 5th century palace and the spectacular views of thew surrounding countryside. Later exploring around village
optional - village nature trail experience the reservoir as the fisherman would do by taking a catamaran ride on the reservoir, and glide through the still water and abundant lotus plants. At the end of the catamaran ride, experience another form of ancient village transport and take a ride in a bullock cart to the mud house for lunch, traditional rice and curry.

Visit former capital of Polonnaruwa, build during the 11th and 12th Centuries and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the ruins of its ancient Royal Palace and temple. Later drive to Minneriya National Park for a game drive, most famous National Park in the world to the see the Elephant gathering. Over 300 Elephants and other wild Animal come to the lake in the evening to enjoy with water.

Depart your hotel in the Cultural Tringle early for the 6 hour drive north to Juffna. On arrival you will explore the main city sight, including the colourful Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil Hindu temple, the small museum and the Juffna Public Library, one of the first buildings to be rebuilt after the ceasefire agreement. End the afternoon at the largely ruined Juffna Fort, once one of the greatest Dutch fort in Asia.

Enjoy a full day tour of the Jaffna Peninsula. Visit the Hindu temple at keerimalai where you might like to take a dip in the sacred ponds. Stop to vist the avcient port of Dambakola Patuna, than continue east to the northernmost point of Sri Lanka, Point Prdro. Once a bustling trading hub, Point Pedro is today a simple town set on a beautiful stretch of coast. Return to the city the ruins of the ancient Buddhist Kadurugoda Temple.

Set off early for the 6 hour drive to Trincomalee and enjoy a city tour of the port town, visiting historic Fort Frederick and the revered Hindu temple of Koneswara Kovil before heading to your beach hotel.

A 7 hour drive takes you back to Negombo for your final night in Sri Lanka. Alternatively, ask your consultant about scenic light aircraft flight from Trincomalee to Colombo to cut your journey time to tow and half hours.
